How do we do the holidays in New Orleans? With more festivals of course! Come along as we outline the hottest events in town for December 2017.
Algiers Bonfires on the Levee– December 2
A most unique holiday tradition, bonfires on the levee brings the smells of bonfire, the sounds of music, and the joy of the holiday season. Bonfires on the levee are a tradition that goes all the way back to the earliest Cajun settlers. They would supposedly build the bonfires to light Papa Noël on his journey. The best part is, it’s free!
LUNA Fête – December 6-9
Come enjoy the brightest event of the year as the streets of Lafayette Square are taken over by art installations and mesmerizing lights. More than 50,000 attendees came to see the lights and art last year and you’re sure to see something unforgettable this year! It’s free and open to the public.
Celebration in the Oaks Run/Walk – December 9
Sure, you could just see the Celebration in the Oaks like anyone else. But why don’t you enjoy it while you run two miles? It’s the most festive race of the year and when you’re finished you can enjoy hot cocoa, pictures with santa, and even a holiday costume contest. Register online for $30, a $5 discount is offered for military service members.
Irving Berlin’s White Christmas – December 19-24
Based on the 1954 movie, this musical will steal your heart and have you humming the classic tunes for weeks after you see it. I grew up watching the movie version and I still watch it every year in December. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and start at $30.
