If you’re not planning on getting married in a church or at a venue with a designed breathtaking view, a ceremony backdrop may be a detail you want to put some extra effort into planning. Whether you’re a DIY kind of girl or you plan on hiring a vendor to supply a backdrop, here are a few ideas for designing a picture perfect setting in which to say, “I do.”

This trend has become popular by incorporating distressed features that are as elegant as they are simple. Staged backdrops using furniture or décor like suitcases and lanterns, shutters, doors, window frames, and mirrors can stand beautifully on their own. Add an extra layer of creativity with some with garlands of greenery or floral accents.

Florals can be used for more than just your centerpieces. Backdrops using flowers add texture, softness, and instant romance. Arches and chuppahs can be accented with eye-catching flowers and greenery. If you’re going for high drama, a floral wall makes for a photo-worthy backdrop, not just for your ceremony but for the reception or cocktail hour as well.  If a full floral wall seems a bit much, hanging strands of flowers against a sheer fabric backdrop is more cost effective option.

Sometimes the setting for your ceremony space exists beautifully on its own, but you still want a little something special to make it uniquely yours. A subtle sparkle can transform your natural backdrop from simple to spectacular. For example, if you’re having an outdoor ceremony, enhance the natural beauty of a tree by hanging stranded lighting, lanterns, or chandeliers from the branches. Weave fabric through the tree and let the ends pool on the ground for a soft effect.
