February is a big month here in New Orleans. This being New Orleans tricentennial, it stands be one of the biggest month’s on record. Which parades are we most interested in this year? Read on!
Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus – February 3rd
Get rowdy as a wookie on February 3rd and celebrate your favorite sci fi stories too! This isn’t one of the superkrewes, but it certainly inspires some of the most elaborate costuming you’ll see in New Orleans! No matter your niche interest, there will be someone at the krewe of Chewbacchus who gets your special sci fi love. Be you a trekie, a jedi, or a Mr. Meeseeks, come out and celebrate with this funky krewe!
Krewe of Muses – February 8th
Perhaps you’re not a who dat lifer and upon entering a friend’s house you see that they have a gaudy high heeled shoe on their mantle. Or on their kitchen counter. What are these shoes doing there?! They’re one of the most popular throws in all of Mardi Gras. Muses members spend long hours making their throws unique so if you catch one, display it proudly in your home. Some shoes are so ornate that they fetch some pretty high prices online!
Krewe of Bacchus – February 11th
Bacchus is one of the heavies, a true superkrewe if there ever was one. Stand out for this parade and you might have neck problems by the end with all the beads you’ll catch! Last year my husband tried to go all day without taking any beads off and there were so many that they got tangled up, it took him at least 15 minutes to get them all off! This parade is always fun and you get to experience all the classic parts of a mardi gras parade: great throws, fun marching bands, crowd watching, and seeing kids enjoy the day equally as much.
